I Love the Smell of Rayon in the Morning

I just noticed that Lucy's Fabrics has some gorgeous rayon lycra knits. Since I am incapable of saying no to beautiful rayon knits, I purchased the following:

And, since it seemed wrong to only order a few paltry cuts of knit fabric, I rounded out my package with a brown double knit, a dark brown ottoman knit and a medium brown ottoman knit.

As much as everyone raves about the new poly/lycra knits that are out these days, I just can't get myself to love them too. I have found a few (very few) that are acceptable. However, for the most part, I find them hot and sticky in the summer, static clingy in the winter and usually downright icky feeling. Give me natural, breathable fabrics with a supple hand and now, I'm in heaven. Three cheers for rayon!

Shannon, so shall we say that there is no moratorium on fabric buying this summer? Just kidding! I love all your colors and (unfortunately) I usually click onto your sources and get some for myself. So the stash, as it were, is growing weekly. Now I need your pattern selections and some pics of wips and I'll be all set.

PS Love the Apocolypse Now reference in your title.

I too looked at Lucy' recently and totally fell for the brown floral knit.

Oh my, yes, I love those black/brown and yellow poppies up on the left! Great choices - I see there's an orange floral, too!

Beautiful fabrics. Thank you for telling me about yet another online fabric retailer. I really did not need to spend any more money on fabric, but I am weak and can not help myself. Was it St Augustine who said 'give me chastity and self-restraint, but not yet?'

I have to agree with you about the poly knits. I would describe them exactly the same way. They are very pretty and tempting, but I resist.

Beautiful! You make it hard for me to stay strong and just focus on shrinking my stash. I assume you buy a generous cut of each piece which leads to a question: as I burn through my stash I am left with smallish cuts of fabric. My Scandinavian thriftiness tells me to hang on to it and find a way to use it. Do you? or do you donate?

I love rayon knits over the poly ones also and haven't added any of those to my collection lately. However, you are killing me with the fabric buying...you make me want to rush right over and get some too...I must resist...I must resist! I must resist!!!!

I have, unfortunately, 'fear of rayon knits'..I have never tried them but the whole 'slinky' fabric thing makes me think they are difficult to work with. Any tips?

I agree that Lucy has lovely knits. I purchased the blue print several weeks ago and it is now aging in my stash.

I am looking forward to seeing what you sew from all your recent fabric purchases.

Lovely fabric Shannon.
Missing your garments.
You haven't posted any since your SWAP! I'm assuming you don't show us everything you create, or is you mojo still missing?
Hope you're not still having back problems, or your mother not well.

Lovely fabrics. i just spent an hour ordering fabric, then at checkout my spend doubled (because of postage to UK) and then doubled again when i remembered i'd have to pay import tax on top.
I sadly deleted my Cart. :(

I'm with you. I just can't love the poly/lycra, but rayon? LOVELY!!!! The poly makes me feel like I'm wearing a plastic bag in the heat and humidity of Texas!

I fully agree about the poly blend knits...I have not tried rayon much, so I'll have to give it a go. I love the brown / yellow poppy print that you have chosen
