A New Man in my Life

There's a new member of the HZC family that I want to introduce to you:

This is Hartley.  He is an 11 month old Vizsla and he is responsible for the return of joy into our home.

Since he has taken up residence with us, he has been doing all the things a sweet puppy should do.

Like rolling in the grass:

Getting up close and personal with bugs:

Trying to balance on the windowsill (okay, maybe that's something puppies shouldn't do - oy!):

Eating spaghetti:

Cruising around at the dog park:

And napping in the warm afternoon sun:

Each day with him is an experience.

I am so happy for you! He looks like a sweet dog. May you have many happy years together.

Eating spaghetti! I love the way puppies lift their ears to look at things. You know your dog is thinking very hard when he/she lifts his/her ears! Hello, Hartley!

Yeah, Shannon! Vizsla's are great and Hartley is beautiful. We are 'hound' people too. Can he balance a banana on his nose?

Interesting choice. A friend of my dad's was a hunter and had one who was very disciplined but very nice (which is saying a lot for me because I was bitten in the face by a dog when I was 4 years old and was terrified of dogs for about 15 years after that). 11 months - still puppy enough for fun, but has the, ahem, important parts already trained in. Good idea.

What a handsome new man! Who could NOT fall in love with him???? My horse vet has 2 Vizsla's. The female LOVES to sit in one of the waiting room chairs and visit with all the clients. She is a hoot! Sometimes, when things are quiet, she will doze off in her sitting position leaning back in the chair!

Annette said...

No way!!! We just got a Vizsla 4 weeks ago. Our Penny is now 11 weeks old. What a crazy time we are having with her. Enjoy your man.

Oh how wonderful!! Welcome Hartley! That balancing on the window sill?? OMG! Hilarious! And I love it when hounds eat spaghetti and their jowls just go flapping all over. We play "Lady and the Tramp" with our Chili and Dani and spaghetti noodles. My boys think it's hysterical (and it is).

Nancy K said...

what a lovely animal! Young enough to work with but old enough to be housebroken! Good when you are going back to school soon. Enjoy your boy.

Mae said...

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the pictures. He's gorgeous. I especially loved 'balancing on the window sill'.

What a beautiful boy. I'm so happy for you and for him. I have a good friend who has a pair of V-dogs and balancing in a window (or the back of the couch) is a very V trait. Give that handsome boy lots of smooches from me and my pack. g

I'm so happy for you!! I wept when your beagle passed - I grew up with one and now have a Big Black Dog who is 12, deaf, and getting to that stage in life. You are giving me hope that I will be able to adopt another furry family member soon after Shiloh goes to the Rainbow Bridge. Met a Vizla once, beautiful, friendly dog.

Congratulations! Hartley, you have it made! Love the balancing on the window sill. Wait until he decides to balance across the back of the couch!

Viszla are sight hounds - has he learned to leap flights of stairs in a single bound, like our greyhound did?

Hartley, you've hit the jackpot mate. I know you'll be well loved in your new home. Shannon, now you have someone to train with as you do the couch to 5k. I loved Hartley running. That was a run full of sheer joy. Our Sophie runs like that which is unusual for a lab. Wishing you every happiness together. Sandy, Jess and Sophie

I'm so glad that Simon thought it was time for you to get a new friend. Hartley will never replace him in your heart, but the best thing with animals is you can always make room in your heart for another.

Welcome, Hartley. And stay off the windowsill.

Howdy, Hartley -- what a cutie! We recently adopted an energetic puppy after our other dog passed away (we were devastated.) It's always great to open yourself up for more doggie love!

I just found your blog through Diary of a Sewing Fanatic and have had a good hour or so enjoying reading through (most impressed with your new sewing room).

I am new to sewing and enjoying it and am learning from experienced sewers like yourself. I even go through short periods of buying and obsessing over nail polish! But what has moved me to comment is your updates on Hartley and Simon.

I think I'm in love with Hartley.. I live in a small house on a busy road and have lost too many dogs on that road to have another (only cats now) so I am enjoying Hartley vicariously. I then found your blogs about Simon and shed a tear. I am so glad you have found Hartley and have him to bring such obvious joy to your life. Aren't animals great!
