Regrouping

Thank-you to everyone that posted kind words of support and/or tidbits of advice with respect to my last post. You all realize how important an animal friend can be - there is a true bond.*

I called the vet to book Simon in for a bile acid test (to test liver function) and a Cushing's disease test. So, he goes in on Monday and hopefully it starts us down a path toward some definitive answers. I'll let you know what happens as we go along.

Again, thank you.

*Anonymous #2 (from the comments to the last post): I'm not really sure how you thought you were being helpful. For those of us with a soul, giving up so easily on a beloved family member is not an option. Sheesh.

Love and hugs to you and Simon. Molly is off down the street to visit friends wearing her christmas antlers, but she sends doggie love as well. She looks a lot like Simon in the picture on the sidebar. I will post a picture on my blog tomorrow.

I'm glad to hear that you at least have direction. Sometimes the unknown is the hardest. We'll keep Simon in our thoughts and will be slinging lots of healing slime your way.

(I thought a couple of those annon. comments were pretty strange.) - g

We'll keep the good thoughts coming. It's obvious how dear he is to you and I hope this is a problem that resolves or is easily treated.

It's good to hear that Simon's appetite and desire for walks is still good. Know that lots of us are thinking of him and hoping for the best for his tests on Monday.

Continuing good wishes from Denmark for Simon, you and your husband. Anon#2's comment was out of line. Simon himself will let you know if and when he needs your help moving on, and you'll know it in your heart. In the meantime - and hopefully it's a very long, happy and healthy meantime - it sounds as though you have a good plan and a good vet to work with.

I just read your last post about Simon. I feel for you. I don't have any answers. But don't give up - I know you'll do everything you can to get Simon back to 100% health. Best, best wishes from my furry and feathered people, Jesse, Angel, Charlie and Winnie! Please get better, Simon.

Our pets really are part of our family and as important as any other part of our family. Some people (like anon) don't get that. Oh well it's their loss as they miss out on such a blessing and joy. Good luck on Monday and Merry Christmas.

At whatever point you have to make 'that' decision, it will be too soon. Good luck with the next step.

Merry Christmas !

Giving up is not an option at all, specially when it is about a family member.

Shannon - I'm sorry someone wrote such a discouraging and uncaring post to you. We all know how much you love Simon and my hope is that the dr will give you some advice on Monday that will help Simon get better.

The unknown can be so scary. I hope the Dr can give you and Simon the answers you need and will be able to set him on the road to recovery.

I'm so sorry that someone posted such an insensitive comment. Giving up on a beloved family member is not an option.

Doggy zen and prayers,

We've got everything crossed for you.

Anonymous 2 should either keep their thoughts to themselves or go boil their head!

I feel bad for Anon #2 because obviously he/she has never cared for - or had an animal care for them enough to know what you are going through with Simon. Simon's a lucky boy, and he knows it.

Alice, Annie, Archie, Bear, Harry, Katie, Lily, Max, Nicky and Ozzie all have fingers and toes crossed for Simon. As do I.

A big hug for you and Simon! Best of luck tommorrow.

Oh my! I have just seen this. My best wishes. Hang in there. I worked for a vet and it was not unusual to see dogs like this do a remarkable turnaround but it does take time. Big hugs to you both.

Best wishes for tomorrow, Shannon. I'm a firm believer in knowledge--we can make better decisions when we know what the situation is. I'm hoping for good news for you and Simon.

Hi, I have a 12 yr old female Beagle who has Cushings. We are treating her with Vetoryl and she is doing great. It is not an easy disease to control but you CAN...and he can live a long healthy life.

Best of luck...Tina

Best of luck to you and your dog. Hopefully, he gets well soon. You know, there have been a rash of strange anonymous commenters lately, last several months. Move on if you don't like the subject matter, ya know? And negativity doesn't help anything. I think having sick pets is like sick babies. They can't tell you what's wrong. Most frustrating, but you do the best you can.

Hi, Just wondering how Simon is after yesterday. Hope he's feeling better and continues to improve. Massive big hug for him. Take care x

Simon is in my thoughts. I hope that the test results show something that is fixable. Hang in there. {{hugs}}
