A few years ago, I put out my back lifting an object that was much too heavy for me. Now, about once or twice a year, I get a flare up (typically when I do something just as stupid as the original incident).
This time around, I was doing some crunches on my weight machine and I decided to increase the mass being lifted by five pounds. I felt a bit of strain on my lower back, but not enough to cause alarm. I finished off all my sets and got down to some sewing. A while later I turned to grab my tape measure and *zowie*.
So, for the last few days I have been just trying to heal. Unfortunately this put getting some pictures of my latest creations on the back burner. I am feeling better today, so I'm hoping to do a photo shoot tomorrow. I have 3 dresses, 4 tops, 3 skirts, 3 crops and 2 pants to show you - the sewing machine and I have become one (picture me sitting in front of my machine in the lotus position) since my summer vacation started two weeks ago.

Having a bad back I commiserate. Hope that you're back to normal again.
Get well soon (it happened to me once lifting a coffee cup from the table). Looking forward to the photo shoot, but be careful!
Hope you're feeling better soon.
Hope you feel better soon. Do you go for a massage or hit a hot tub when this happens? Sometimes that helps.
I really hope you are feeling better. But seriously...is that projects in progress list up-to-date? Seriously...are you sewing that much stuff? If so...you owe me...ummm excuse me...us your general reading public (really just me!) an awesome photo shoot! :)
do you have one of those heat packs you warm up in the microwave? they are wonderful creations.
hope you are feeling better soon. back injuries are so debilitating.
Sorry to hear about your back. Been there and done that as well. Looking forward to photos of all you fabulous sewing.
Shannon, I sympathize with the back pain. Be careful doing exercises. Actually, swimming and water aerobics are great for bad backs. The microwave heat pac mentioned by mermaids is a good suggestion! And...that sounds like an awful lot of sewing young lady!!! I'm awaiting the show with all your followers.
ouch. there is nothing worse than a bad back! recently two women in the neighborhood put out their backs carrying heavy laundry baskets! i hope you are feeling better soon. can't wait to see the pictures--you have made a whole wardrobe!
--haven't bought the silver polish yet but have a great lavender on right now!
I can sympathize with you. I put my back out a couple of years ago doing, guess what, SEWING. I stayed hunched over too long in one position and I ended up having to go to the doctor to get a cortizone shot. I had to use a heating pad for a week.
Bending over a cutting table for a long period of time does it to me...but the first time it hit me was when I bent over to put a cup in the bottom rack of my mother-in-law's dishwasher. yeeoowch is right!!
Hope you're better soon!
LOL! Sounds totally enlightning. Can't wait to see and I hope you are feeling better, I'm sure that was really painful.
The same thing happened to me this weekend. I, rather stupidly, upped my squat weights on Saturday from 35kg to 40 which, at the time, only made my legs tired. Sunday night I sat down to watch television and do some knitting. The ball of yarn rolled away and I reached for it - pow! Just like you described. I've been using a wheat bag all day. My trainer tells me that sometimes you're better off staying on a lower weight and working harder on your form (or increasing reps). I hope you're feeling better soon!
Ouch! I've been there too, and hope you heal fast and well
Do you think sewing in the Lotus position would help me sew more...You've accomplished an amazing amount. However, that might have something to do with your back pain :-) Hope you are well soon. Judging by the comments, we've all been there.
Yeah, been there. Sucks getting old, I'm telling you. Hope you're feeling better soon and you can enjoy your summer break!
Oops, I missed this post. This answers a question I asked on Artisan's Square.
Hope you are feeling better.
