It Gives me Paws

Sometimes I wonder at how invested I am in this animal. I could not possibly love him more if he was my own flesh and blood. Simon had a very sore, very infected paw on Tuesday. It broke my heart to see the pain in his eyes. At times like that, he seems so small, so fragile. I just want to gather him up and love the sickness right out of him.

We went to the vet and one anti-inflammatory shot, some antibiotic pills and two days later, he seems to be on the mend. I, however, have had two very sleepless nights. Of course, he wants to self-medicate by licking his paw. Unfortunately, he would lick it until it was raw if I didn't stop him. So, I slept right by him on the couch to keep him honest. (I know, I could have used one of those wacky looking cones, but he is the Houdini of beagles and would be out of it in a flash).

If you really want to know how devoted I am to this hound, get a load of this. Instead of going to the big 40% off sale at a local fabric store, I have stayed home with Simon to nurse him back to health. My goodness, I love this sweet, little beast...

Having a Westie as 24/7 security guard, I totally relate to keeping the Dog in Good Health. I'm sure Simon will be back to the machines in no time under your watchful eye. Just think: he's already saved you money by keeping you from the fabric sale and now you can buy more (dog) treats!

I have been racking my brain and searching the stash for an alternative to the Vogue 8146 pattern for your contemplated back detailing mentioned in your Aug 20th post. I haven't found the pattern I bought to replace it, yet. The prob with 8146 is that the back pleat is contained in the back neckseam and weight (plus some poor drafting) cause the jacket to pull to the back. I did a bit of writing about it at TheSewingDivas and TheStitchery earlier this year.

There is a better pattern Vogue published in Spring and as soon as I find it, I promise I will shoot the info your way!!! The improvement to the pattern is that there is a back yoke into which the pleat is sewn. That's all I can remember at this point (have moved things and everything's out of order in the Stitchery ~ugh~). I'm hoping to uncover this pattern as I finish up commercial orders and get back to *my* sewing :) You're on my mind!

First, I can't tell you how badly I want a beagle. Not just any dog, but a beagle. But, I don't have the schedule. Simon couldn't be any cuter and you must love him to skip a sale. I hope he's better!

Shannon - Lucy & Beau send sloppy hound kisses to help Simon mend. I know exactly how you feel about him. The other day I was sitting with Miss Abigail and I noticed how really old she is starting to look - I was so sad. Hope Simon is back to perfect health soon! g

I understand completely. I've slept on the hard kitchen floor to be with my beloved 17 year old Rottie, Charlie, when he was sick. Hope Simon is all better.
