The Taming of the Arse - Week 10

What a busy few weeks I have had - I could barely keep my head above water.  The biggest culprits were progress reports and parent-teacher interviews.  But, all is well now.  Can I get a big, "Oh, yeah, baby!" for March Break (some of my international readers may call it Spring Break).  One blissful week off, to do with as I please.  Sigh...

On the healthy living front, I have been doing pretty well.  I am still sitting at seven pounds lost, as I seem to have hit another plateau.  However, I am taking it in stride as I can tell that I am fitter.

My biggest accomplishment to date is my increasing ability to do push ups.  Six weeks ago ago, I could do five bent-knee push ups, one month ago I upped the tally to ten and as of today I can do eighteen.  Even though they are the sissy push ups, I am still very proud at how much stronger I am getting.

So, tell me, my little health nuts, how goes the fight?

Yay for Spring Break! Mine isn't until the first week of April... I have had a bad 2 weeks, sick with a nasty chest cold. I'll be ready to run this week, finally!

We also have spring break the first week of April. I am still sitting at the same weight, but I go to the endocrinologist tomorrow to see what's up with my thyroid. Maybe if we figure that out it will help. I've been at 5 lbs lost for about a month now.

Shannon - have you ever heard of this site/program: http://www.hundredpushups.com/
I was able to work up to that doing the bent leg pushups a couple of years ago (and I am much, much older than you are so I'm sure you can do it too) before I broke my shoulder. I'm back into training on it and am up to 50, which is darned good for an old lady. You might want to look into it.

Congrats on sticking to your plan for better health. Sissy push ups or not, being able to increase them is an accomplishment.

So cool that you can do so many push ups now! And there will be many more :) I have to get spring/summer ready to but don't even feel like my lazy pilates workout lol, good thing I have my 3 dachshunds to take out for long walks.

Well I actually started the weight loss last Monday and my weigh in today was a loss of 1.6 kls (3.5 pounds). So happy. And I did it by counting calories. Works for me every time. I did start running/walking with an iPhone app. Only went twice though. Must get back to gym too to tone up. Clothes also feeling slightly looser :) Why did it take me so long..oh yeh, I like food and drink and chocolate and chips and champagne and......

I bet you could do at least two if not three full blown pushups right now. You'd be surprised at how strong you are!

That you are able to do more push-ups is an indication that you are going through body recomposition. The scale only shows gross differences and is a lousy metric. It isn't useless, but should be only one metric. Your tape measure is a much better tool to tell you how you are doing. It will reveal changes in girth and can be used to estimate changes in body fat through a body fat formula. Just be sure to use the same body fat formula every time you calculate that.

Yeah Shannon! I sit at 18 down which only goes to show you how horribly I was eating. I have 6 left to go. Have not been exercising and know I need to start. That's the next hurdle. I am back into most of my clothes, have more energy and am sleeping better.

Because the Mr. is our chef and he LOVES to cook, I've modified my diet so that I am having nothing but whole foods until I sit down to dinner with him at night. He gives me smaller portions of the main. This seems to be the winning formula for me and I don't feel deprived at all.

Keep up the good work and thank you for the continued motivation!

Down 12, 8 to go. I broke down over the weekend and joined a gym. I have a (food eating) vacation coming up that will probably add back a couple - just need to realize that and take them back off when I get back. Face it, no one goes to New Orleans and comes back thinnner!

Weight is just a number and while it is great to see a number you like, accomplishments about your overall health and fitness level deserve a super high five as well.

Congratulations on the pushups - I've been working on doing them too, and it's great to notice the number going up! If you want to do them on your toes, I've read that bent knee pushups won't get you there - the suggestion I read was to do them with your hands on an incline (a chair or step) and then gradually reduce the height until you are on the floor. That's what I've been doing and it helps (though I can do a bunch on my knees, so sometimes I'd rather do that!)

Enjoy your spring break.

Week 9 & 10 was again not my best did only 3 days, since DD had to do drill that exempted me from the walk/jog on Saturday & Sunday.

What I can say is this journey is definitely showing results and my coworkers have asked if I'd lost weight. I am still trying to confuse my body and doing a combination of aerobics, running in place with weights, weight lifting (up to 20 pounds) & hula hooping.

Now that you mentioned push-ups that would be a great alternative for the days I don't want to lift weights. Thanks.

Until then... stay motivated.
