McCall's 5042 - Numero Uno

Pattern: McCall's 5042 (view C)

Size: size 8

Fabric: Tropical floral print stretch cotton from Fabric Mart (I got this in a free bundle. I love free bundles - it's so much fun to be surprised!)

Comments: I have made this dress a couple of times in the past and I have always been pleased with the outcome. So, when I decided to sew up a few sundresses to get me through the warmer fall days at work, this dress sprang to mind immediately.

This dress has a lovely princess bodice and a full skirt that makes alteration a breeze, if necessary. The only tweak I did was a small bust adjustment on the princess seams in front.

This dress has a completely lined bodice and an unlined skirt. For lining, I used a white stretch cotton fabric - I don't want to lose the comfort of a stretch fashion fabric by lining with a non-stretch woven.

Conclusion: This dress will be perfect for late spring, summer and early fall. In warmer weather, it can be worn solo. When the weather cools, I can toss on a cardigan to extend the wear time.

Love your dress and the whole outfit. The fabric is great for the dress which is great with the necklace and shoes. It all looks colourful in a subtle kind of way.

Lovely. I have a TNT vogue pattern which is similar. One of my favorites! Looking good again.

Another great dress and that dress was FREE! :) So now that Fabric Mart's site is up and running again and you've used up so many yards...are you replenishing yet?

That print is so pretty - a perfect transition piece! I'm working on some dresses for fall myself and I can't wait for the weather to turn. :)

Another great dress. I can't believe you got such a cute fabric, and in your colors, free!
You'll be the best dressed teacher at school. Well, you probably are already.

I love this print! The more I see of your sewing lately, the more I think we have almost co-ordinating wardrobes! The shoes are the perfect match for a print like this. Did you have yellow nails this day, too?

I love you in a fitted waist look. but then again you looked great in the empire style too. I like the version with the sewn on tie in front for a more formal look. I could see the dress in black velvet with a black satin tie for a tuxedo look. I'm sewing vicariously through you by the way!!!

Another gorgeous dress.

You give me so much to think about with your patterned fabric choices as this is one area that I tend to stay away from.

Love both the dresses! They look great on you. I think the neckline is my favorite feature. I also really like the Simplicity dress from the previous post. I made a muslin (a long time ago) of the V-neck version and I was very disappointed in it. I've often wondered about going back and making the raglan version. You may have just inspired me to give it a try.
