I'm Not Dead Yet

Remember a few posts ago when I said I had nasty cold? Well, I then proceeded to cough like a maniac for a week and a half and I developed a very disturbing rattle in my chest when I breathed. But one evening, the straw that broke the camel's back was when I coughed so hard I was seeing stars. Certain that I had a detached retina, I had my husband make an optometrist appointment for the next day. Prior to that appointment, I dropped by a local clinic and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Then it was on to the eye doctor, who checked me over thoroughly before pronouncing that my eye was in perfect health. She said it was likely that when I coughed, the vitreous humour smacked into my retina, causing momentary flashes of light (although she said it in a far more doctory way). So, disaster averted. Now, I am on the mend, although I'm still coughing - hopefully that dissipates soon.

So, I haven't sewn a stitch in over three weeks and I'm getting mucho antsy! I have, however, been thinking about my plans for summer sewing since I only have one week of work left (woot!!). Then I will be able to sew all day, every day, for 9.5 weeks.

To start things off, I saw this top on the Avon website and although, I don't necessarily consider Avon to be the cutting edge in fashion, I am quite smitten with this garment. I think it would look great with a pair of capris or a skirt - it could be a wonderful addition to my summer wardrobe. Thus, one of my first projects will be the creation of a knock off.

Any suggestions for a pattern?

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I am just getting over the same symptoms. Last nite was the first nite I was able to sleep through the nite, after nearly a week of having to take cough syrup with codeine to battle a horrible cough that rattled my mind, body & soul for 2 weeks...uggh.

That is a lovely top, and wish I knew of a pattern to get that look.

You are the second person in two days that I have heard had bronchitis. It's still is damp and miserable here in New England so a bit of sunshine would help all around. As to sewing, I'll be on the look out for a pattern with similar lines for your top. Actually, there are some dress patterns out there that have a banded neckline like it does. You could then add the ruffle and bow on your own.

You must have been sick and very busy - no sewing for 3 weeks! Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Love the top. Seems to me that you could add a ruffle and bow to a TNT t-shirt, but I will be on the look out for a pattern.

Take care, little one, it would be a waste of precious time being ill during vacation. Happy summer.

I really detest bronchitis and have experienced the flashes of light. Oxygen deprivation is not a good thing. Lots of fluid, sleep, and don't push it. BTW, I love reading your blog and your beagle. I had one that would dance with me when I was little. They are the clowns of the dog world aren't they.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I think any pattern with the banded neckline would work - just add your own ruffle and bow. I can see you wearing that style and color, too!

If you get BWOF, the March issue has a tunic that could be adapted. Here's the link to #107: http://www.burdafashion.com/en/Magazines/Archives/103_Tunic_technical_drawing/1270777-1463237-1692417-1692577-1692910-1692912.html
The neckband would need to be narrowed and be made to be uniform in length as well as a ruffle made. The body of the pattern does have a nice shape, similar to the Avon one.
