Happy Canada Day

To all my fellow Canadians, here's wishing you a happy and safe Canada Day. Whether you're taking in the sun at the beach, paddling on a peaceful lake or barbequing up a storm in your own backyard, I hope you're enjoying this day with family and friends.

Unfortunately, I'm alone today, as my husband had yesterday off (his work tries to place holidays to give them long weekends, which is nice). So, I plan to make good use of my time by sewing. I'm almost finished a cute little tie-front cardigan in a gorgeous deep papaya coloured linen.

In other sewing related news...
I have been on an insane orange kick lately. I cannot get enough of this juicy, citrusy, delicious colour! So, when I stumbled upon Vogue Fabrics latest offerings for summer, I was rendered incapable of resisting the following luscious fabrics:

Chapeaux Blooms - Stretch Cotton Sateen & Chapeaux Tangerine - Blouseweight Linen

Chapeaux Window Panes - Rayon Blend Suiting & Hannah Jardin - Poly Georgette

Oaks Sensation - Variegated Crocheted Novelty & Oaks Delight - Floral Jacquard Knit

Oaks Mango - Poly/Cotton/Lycra Interlock Knit & Oaks Stretch - Cotton/Lycra Stretch Twill

And, get this...drum roll please...I even have a plan for these babies. Check it out:

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I picked up some more fabulous summer fabric at a local store yesterday. I haven't had a chance to photograph them yet, so I don't have any pictures. But, suffice it to say, they helped to sate my appetite for orange as well.

LOVE those colors!! I love to wear orange/coral. I may have to sneak over to Vogue Fabrics and see what they have. What type of pattern will you use for the crocheted novelty fabric? I think that will make an adorable cardi.

Happy Canada Day. (don't think I knew there was such a thing until this moment :$ but you live and learn! Feel free to ignore 30th November when it comes - St.Andrews Day)

While I think the orange is great, and will suit you and is indeed bright and cheerful... what happened to the teal/lime plan!?

cheers,
AJ

First the orange crochet piece is TDF! Second, are those all burda numbers??? Wow! You are working it out...I can't wait to see these pieces come to life! And I want to see a pic of each and every one of them...cause it's just not fair to tease us with the fabric and then not show the finished garment!!!

I love Orange too. You have a bright, happy wardrobe planned.

Frank Sinatra once said that Orange was the happiest color.

Shannon - this is just so timely - I got a piece of that color silk charmeuse when I went to Kashi's in NYC recently and I've been ruminating how to handle the 'I don't think I want a whole dress out of this' problem. The answer is obviously to go to Vogue Fabrics and get one of those prints and make a skirt to go with it. Woohoo!!

I've become a little obsessed with orange of late and made my JCC in this colour, so I am very envious of these purchases. I look forward to seeing the completed garments.

The way you laid your plan out looks good. I just tried that for the first time without so much success. I'm trying it this way next time, if you don't mind some imitation.

I love these orange shades. I am a little obsessed with yellow lately - my new fabric collection is totally dominated by it.

Only just got around to reading this and wanted to say that Burda 5/06 107 is a splendid pattern. I made it in black and I have worn it a lot. it goes together very nicely, though i found I had to slip baste the curved front seams to get them accurate. I particularly like the sleeve though I had to think quite hard to get the lining and the facing of the sleeve hem really neat and well finished. But I am sure you will do a wonderful job and really look forward to seeing the result
